Move Over Long Hair, Short Formal Hairdos are Taking Over!
I’ve begun to see a trend that is very subtle and not very widely reported and that is toward more formal classic hairstyles. Retro looks of the 40’s and classic styles from the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn are showing up on the celebs. So I think it is time to look at what influence this classic short formal hairdo movement might be having.
Short formal hairdos are so much fun, and keep an eye on the accessories! I adore this asymmetrical short boy-cut on Marley Shelton. Big, flirty earrings and bare shoulders make the look come alive for any soiree! A great cut and color is essential to making this look over-the-top! Dimensional hair color gives a coquettish quality to the hairdo . . . lighter in front, darker in back and a few strategically placed high lights and you’re there!!
Short formal hairdos like Keira Knightly’s . . . pure panache! If you think short hair is boring, think again. This short, magnificently mussed-do is tooooo cute! Note once again, to make this a more formal do, remember the earrings . . . the earrings. To add all this fullness to this shape, Keira’s medium thick hair have been layered and texturized throughout to break it up. Style with volumizing products, shampoo or mousse and spray roots with a product like, Matrix root lifter and blow dry haphazardly to create fullness. Use your favorite styling gel or pomade to ends for a piecy look.
Both of Katie Holme’s short formal hairdos fall into classic hair stye territory! This short crop haircut with long layered bangs looks especially ‘cute’ on oval or petite face shapes. Other face shapes that can wear this well include heart, diamond and sometimes rectangle. Round face shapes normally should avoid this hairstyle, but there are some exceptions, your hairdresser should be able to help you.
The slightly inverted chin-length bob with bangs is also a classic shape that makes it fit our list of short formal hairdos. This hairstyle is cut just slightly shorter in back. Part of what gives this short hairdo a formal look is the chic, sleek styling. Use a flat-iron and a shine serum like Morrocanoil to create this look. This hairdo fits most face shapes and will work best with straight hair.
Short formal hairdos like Naomi Watt’s retro look are full of glamour and style! This year’s trendy wavy, lightly layered bob is especially popular because it’s low maintenance and versatile! This short hairdo takes on a more formal look with a deep side part and by tucking one side behind the ear. Try a sparkly pin and voila! Another big plus is this hairdo works for all face shapes.
Prep clean hair with a hair styling spritz or mousse like, Sebastian Whipped Creme. Use a mid sized curling iron, 1′ to 1 1/4′ barrel and wrap horizontal. Let hair cool before pulling through with fingers to style. Mist with a light hairspray like, Sebastians Shaper.
